Haute Feature: Uvana Doran
Born and raised in New York, Uvana Doran began her career studying fashion design at Marist College and The Fashion Institute of Technology. She later relocated to NC and kept her city at heart, as she received her Bachelor of Science in Fashion Merchandising and Design from NC A&T State University, along with a Certificate in Entrepreneurship. Having had the privilege of being mentored by renown New York designer Paul Carroll, Uvana has gained valuable knowledge and expertise in creative design and product development.
Harlem’s rich culture and flair. Her technical knowledge of garment fit, combined with her innate creative abilities, result in effortless and wearable garments that reflect the kind of woman she is herself; strong, classy, and fearless. Her many fashion related activities include New York Fashion Week, Triad Goodwill's Rock the Runway- where she was awarded 2015 designer of the year, Greensboro Fashion Week 2014, The African American Atelier, North Carolina State University's African American Textile Society (AATS) design competition 2014-named designer of the year, as well as other fashion related endeavors.
Uvana’s future goals include a posh boutique to market her brand, as well as building relationships with retailers geared toward producing an internationally known name. She also hopes to develop her own network of professionals in the arts, that will partner with her to bridge Industry with the classroom for students who would be less likely to have exposure to the Fashion Industry. Uvana believes in the importance of community involvement, inspiring others, and giving back. When not designing, she is a Family and Consumer Sciences CTE teacher instructing in apparel, textile, and interior design. She is also a program facilitator for several fashion design after school programs, and serves as mentor to several local design students. Uvana has a passion for fashion design, and enjoys being able to nurture the talents of others all the while aspiring to achieve all of her career goals.
